Ser Quenton Qoherys served as master-at-arms at Dragonstone during Aegon's Conquest and may, in his youth, have trained the three Targaryen conquerors and their half-brother Orys Baratheon at arms. After King Aegon I extinguished House Hoare in the burning of Harrenhal, he granted Quenton the ruined castle, making him the first Lord of Harrenhal and founder of House Qoherys. Already an old man, Quenton had two strong sons and a plump grandson, Gargon, to continue his line, but when his first wife died of spotted fever in 1 BC he wed a daughter of his liege lord, Edmyn Tully of Riverrun. In 9 AC he died of a fall from his horse, and—his sons having predeceased him—he was succeeded directly by his grandson Gargon. His house and deeds are recounted in The World of Ice & Fire and Fire & Blood.
